In this project we learned about socialization and how it affects our world around us. Socialization is norms and values you were taught in a certain enviorment, also known as your culture, growing up. It is, and always has been, passed down from generation to generation. Another big part of socialization is stereotypical categores that each of us posses, examples of these categories are gender, race, age, ability, sexual orientation, economic class, and religion. After exploring these categories we then studied the cycle of socialization. The cycle of socialization is made up of seven different stages: First starting with the beginning, then first socialization, institutional and cultural socialization, enforcements, results, actions, and last, directions for change. Every human being starts off in the beginning stage and makes his/her rounds until they are willing to take the path of direction for change. After discussing what we would like our exhibition to look like: more interactive, enjoyable, and shorter. As a class we all decided the most important thing for our users to see, is this cycle of socialization, so we all were assigned rooms with a different part of a cycle, and jobs for us to help carry out. When it came to crunch time we all transformed the rooms into a whole different environment, to help our users really experience the cycle socialization.
My Mask: Unzipping the Negativity
Here is a reflection about my experience through this project and how I have grown, and what I can do better on with group work. Please enjoy!
