In class today we went over what attributes a group needs to have for a project to be successful. After reading these over we chose which two were our biggest strengths and challenges. For me I said that one of my biggest strengths is flexibility. Flexibility to me means accepting a new way, or changing an idea or way your group is doing the project. I have done this with most projects because I go into every project with an idea already set in my head. Then when I get together with my group there is normally a change in the plan. I am totally fine with this and we end up with a great product, because we are each flexible. Also in groups when you have someone absent from being ill or out of town you are left with the work. This is when you have to be flexible and take on some of their jobs to get the task done. Then next strength I have is persistence. Persistence to me means not giving up, staying on track. I do this a lot I love to overachieve to expand and understand my learning. This is when I have to be persistent because I will be the one staying up later to do extra work or make sure that it is refined enough to be proud of it.
We also discussed our challenges in a group project, for me the big one is leadership. Leadership means to me taking on the role of helping your group come up with more ideas, speaking up when something isn’t quite right. I have done this when my group has not put for their effort and I want to be persistent to get all of our project done in time to be able to get a good grade and to be proud of the work. Most of the time though I am very hesitant to speak up, which brings me to my next challenge having effective communication. Effective communication is being able to speak up and advocate if needed. To be able to tell your group member if them missed out on something. I am a shy person when I don’t know them very well so when it comes to advocating or helping to tell the group that we need to rap the project up or what we need to change is challenging. For me to be able to fix these challenges I think I will need to know them better so I can be more myself. And to push past this shy feeling of not wanting to fully express myself, and be okay with being me. If I do this I think I will be able to speak up more causing a better leadership role to come up.

For our mask project I hope to see a big out come on people showing up, and to feel very satisfied on all the hard work done. Seeing how many people want to check out our exhibition will make all the hard work seem worth it and important to carry on, which will bring on that satisfactory feeling. I hope we will be able to create some sort of interacting maze that brings out everything we have worked up to. Which is all the background knowledge we have done: the taking notes, the knowledge of culture, the knowledge of the cycle of socialization, and much much more.
I would really like to hear a parent say, “Wow! Those kids put forth a lot of effort. I can’t wait to go to another exhibition.” Hearing that would make my day. We have put forth a lot of effort and if our users can see the effort by still enjoying it, I feel like I will be inspired. It will also be a confirmation that we did put in all the necessary work needed. If a sociology professor was to walk in and learn something new and tell me or us as a 9th grade, “Huh, I didn’t know that I will need to remember that. “ or “Huh, I didn’t know that I will put that in my back pocket.” I think all of us would feel good. When your users are able to pick up what you are trying to teach them or inspire them to think about more and they do it, you feel accomplished and ready to move on. I think to make sure that we are giving accurate information to our audience we will need to go over our readings that we have read in the past. And maybe take notes on important topics that we would like to pull across. Us as a 9th grade could take the initiative to look and see what they can do to better understand the cycle of socialization. Another way would be to make posters to constantly be able to look at and familiarize yourself with them. Then triple check that they are accurate, which could mean going online, looking through books, looking through all the readings that have been given to us through our background knowledge. What have we been doing as our first humanities project as 9th graders? We are doing the Mask Project which is a project that helps us go in depth about our society and how each of us are socialized. We first built up background knowledge about this subject by finding out what culture is and how every human being goes through a cycle. This cycle has different stages of growth, you grow when people have taught you what is good and bad, what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. These are ways that you are socialized.
The last couple of weeks we have been forming ideas about how we want our exhibition to be. We have finished our masks and essays which is the soul bases of our exhibition, so now we are finding out what will intrigue our users. We first all came together and expressed our feelings on how we feel about exhibitions, and what we like and dislike. And I think all around we agreed that exhibitions are normally boring and too long for our parents. Us as students stand behind our projects and repeat ourselves constantly. Our parents are the only ones that end up coming because they know about it. As a 9th grade class we wanted to be able to expand our users to more of the community and not just to our parents. We also wanted to have everyone be interested in what is happening during the exhibition they can’t wait to come to more. We also want them to walk out with a new sensation and understanding of socialization. After discussing these things we began to write down ideas that we really liked for a new and creative way to do our exhibition. We have now voted and chose a distinct idea on what our exhibition is going to be like. It is going to be a maze where you see and feel how others are socialized. I am really excited to see how our exhibition will turn out. The exhibitions in the past has been slopped together in the last second and so we can’t expand and do more. So, we stand in front of our project explaining twenty or thirty times what it is. Now seeing the work put into this project and seeing everyone's ideas I know for a fact that this will be an engaging and fun exhibition for our community and for us as students. Being able to bring in everyone's ideas as a whole 9th grade will make everyone want to put for their effort because they will most likely want to see their idea come to life. I can’t wait to see the finished product. By doing this maze the different jobs we will need for accomplishing all of this is a
I have found throughout all the groups I have been with at Animas High School it doesn’t work to be with your best friends because they want to hang and chat or won’t push the project to it’s best ability because they don’t want to hurt your feelings. Through the steps in getting to where we are now we have been in groups and I feel like I have learned that when everyone in the group brings out their fair share we progress and achieve really good quality work. When only half the group works on it then it won’t be to it’s full potential. When reaching out to others for advice expand to a lot more people so that you can get a fair amount of feedback and be able to know what needs to be fixed for everyone to enjoy. I can’t wait to see how this project comes together. Even though this project is in progress it is going to bloom into such an amazing and beautiful flower! |
